About the Event

Through this three-part sketching series, participants will explore the nuances of light, shadow, and form while drawing inspiration from classical European art. Each session focuses on a distinct theme, guiding participants through varied techniques and approaches to sketching. This series is an invitation to observe closely, engage deeply, and sketch intuitively.

Session Details:

13 April 25 – Timeless Impressions - Session 1

The tradition of still life painting in European art allowed artists to study light, form, and the subtle passage of time. This session invites participants to observe the natural world with fresh eyes, sketching objects that evolve in appearance through shifts in light and texture. Inspired by Caravaggio’s realism, the workshop encourages an unfiltered approach to representation, embracing both beauty and imperfection.

27 April 25 -  Shades of Time - Session 2

Drawing, in its essence, is an act of seeing. In this session, participants will engage in quick sketching exercises, refining their ability to capture gesture, movement, and anatomy. Working with sepia tones on tinted surfaces, they will create drawings with an antique sensibility, reminiscent of early European preparatory sketches. The session will include a live model. connecting you to the rich tradition of portrait art.

4 May 25 – Painted Personas - Session 3

Caravaggio’s paintings are marked by their theatrical use of light and intense emotional depth. His subjects, often set against darkened backgrounds, emerge with striking clarity. In this session, participants will explore the interplay of expressive portraiture and vintage aesthetics, capturing heightened emotions through bold contrasts and chiaroscuro techniques.
