About Mirai
Mirai is composed of women of different ages, professions, and musical capacities. They share a love for music in different genres and styles and are committed to learning and growing in their musical skills. Mirai was founded in April 2024. The ensemble's conductor, Sharmila B. Livingston, has had a musical career in the city spanning three decades. She started out as a soloist and has since conceptualised, composed, and directed several musicals commissioned to celebrate major milestone events, with casts ranging from 350 to 1000. She has also conducted the city's chorus – The Capital City Minstrels. The group has been christened 'Mirai' by Ms Livingston, who felt the word is rich with meaning in different languages. In Japanese, it means 'future', and in some other languages it means 'miracle' or 'vast like the ocean'. Overall, the word Mirai is a winner for this group that is set on experiencing and expanding their musical horizons individually and as a group. Mirai's debut season included concerts in December 2024 at the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art and at the Chapel, Embassy of the Holy See, Vatican, in New Delhi. This summer, Mirai is delighted to participate in a Choral Residency in the UK with the Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo, between 31st May – 2nd June 2025, organised by Vox Anima London. The KNMA recital is a pre-London event to celebrate this wonderful opportunity. Mirai from Delhi, travelling to London, includes repertoire by composers from Italy.
