About the Event

Andha Yug is a verse play, written by Dharamvir Bharati. It is set in the background of last day of Mahabharata war till the last moment of Lord Krishna’s life.

The play hints that every action of violence degrades society as a whole. Longing for one last act of revenge Ashwatthama releases the ultimate weapon, the Brahmastra, which threatens to destroy the world. The moral centre of the play lies in Krishna. Despite his failure to ensure peace, it is his presence throughout the play which reveals to us that the ethical and the just are always available to human beings even in the worst of times

Andha Yug outshines direct reference to the violence occurred from the partition of India and of Second World War and its effects on human lives and moral values. It depicts hazards when society turns away from its insight. How eventually both victor and loser suffers, it speaks about greed, self-hood. It questions whether we are accountable for our moral choices.

It elaborates on the consequences, when a society fails to stop a cycle of revenge and collectively reject the voice of wisdom, leading to wide-scale bloodshed.
