The Asalato from Senegal is a simplistic, minimalist, yet immensely complex tool for music and self-discovery. In this workshop, participants will learn how to craft and play this portable, yet forgotten musical instrument. What's more, they get to take it back home with them too.

In this workshop, the participants start with introductions, go into some context behind indigenous instruments, watch a few asalato videos and try a few clapping based group rhythm exercises. After this, everyone would make their own asalato to their own size and liking. They would then learn how to play them and repeat a few of the earlier clapping exercises, but with the asalato. Finally, they would be introduced to a few other indigenous instruments like the didgeridoo and have a group jam facilitated by Siddharth. 

The ticket to the workshop includes all materials required to make your own Asalato and refreshments from the venue. 

About the Instructor - Siddharth Venkat is a musician focused on the importance of sound in our lives. Using indigenous instruments and the concept of 'intuitive music', his workshops are grassroots and elementary, offering the participants a genuine chance to go deeper into introspective and therapeutic states of their own mind and being; and at their own pace.
