This May, KCC presents Atho Hidimba Kotha / অথ হিড়িম্বা কথা, a theatrical production by Birati Samuho Performers Collective – a queer and female-centric creative collective, with Titas Dutta as the director.  

The play unfolds as a retelling of the Mahabharata from the perspective of an indigenous, independent female character Hidimba – a demoness who was not given enough space in Vyasa’s elaborate eighteen ‘parva’s of the epic. Hidimba thus comes up with her own version of the epic on behalf of marginalised people whose presence is never acknowledged in the course of history, by raising questions that shake the very foundation of Brahminical hetero-patriarchal normative society.
