About the Event

The play 'Aurangzeb' depicts the era of Mughal rule when Shahjahan proclaimed his eldest son Dara Shikoh to be the emperor. Dara being sympathetic to Shahjahan’s dream plan of building a black-marble-mahal for himself on the other side of Yamuna facing Mumtaz’s Taj Mahal made a promise to him. When Emperor Shahjahan fell ill in 1657, a war of succession broke out among his four sons, Dara Shikoh, Shuja, Aurangzeb and Murad. The main contenders were Dara and Aurangzeb.

The play selects, telescopes and fuses events to capture fissures and peaks of a period of history and politics. Will Shahjahan's dream will be fulfilled? Who was the real mastermind behind this war of succession to throne and issues and ideologies? Theatreleela Acting Studio brings in a piece of historical drama on 15th & 16th January 2022 at Akshara Theatre, 3:30 pm onwards.
