About the Event

The Culinary Tour of Khandesh provides a unique glimpse into the food culture of Northern Maharashtra and also the upcoming wine culture of India.


This cooking vacation is your weekend getaway, just 3 hours from Mumbai, where you get to gorge on lip-smacking local food, sip on fine wines, and explore unlikely yet delightful pairings of both. You also get to visit the first grape plantation in Nashik (since 1925) and chat with the jolly farmer! In the same farm, we set up cooking stations where you can learn the secrets of Khandeshi cuisine in a fun-filled cooking activity, under the guidance of our experienced home cooks.


The food and cooking lessons in this tour are supervised by Ms. Ashalata Patil, who is a leading authority on Khandeshi cuisine. She has contributed recipes to prestigious magazines like Purnabramha by Loksatta (Indian Express Group) and has also featured on Colours Marathi channel.


Schedule:


Day 1:


Lunch with Khandeshi food and wine pairing (1 PM - 3 PM):


Welcome to a new cuisine! We host this home cooked feast in a farmhouse and it's an elaborate 2 hour affair. We serve 3 local dishes, each one paired with a different wine. We explain all the food, wine and the food & wine pairing as suggested by the wine experts. We recommend keeping your breakfast light for the day!


Tour of a vineyard (4 PM - 6 PM):


Take a personalized tour of a vineyard along with wine tasting. Since Sula is too mainstream, we take you to one of the boutique vineyards like Grover Zampa or Vallonné. They are well kept secrets in the wine industry and produce some really good wine!


Day 2:


Tour of Nashik's first grape plantation (10 AM - 11 AM):


In 1925, Mr. Pravin Gaikwad's grandfather pioneered grape cultivation in Nashik. Take a tour of this historic 50 acre farm in Ozar, with grape, pomegranate and corn fields. Interact with the chatty Mr. Gaikwad, learn about agriculture and hear some interesting food trivia!


Cook a Khandeshi meal, followed by lunch (11 AM - 2 PM):


All our guests have a favorite by the end of day one. So, pick your favorite Khandeshi dish and learn to cook it in an open air set up under the guidance of our experienced homecooks! We do have additional food, just in case!
