The Kiran Nadar Museum of Art invites you to a specially curated walkthrough by a curator of Of Worlds Within Worlds, a landmark retrospective on the life and work of renowned artist, poet, and pedagogue Gulammohammed Sheikh. Happening every Saturday at 5 PM, this walkthrough offers a deeper engagement with Sheikh’s artistic journey, spanning over six decades and featuring more than 190 works.

Sheikh’s practice traverses time and space, drawing from personal memory, cultural heritage, and global influences. The exhibition showcases an extensive range of works—from gouaches, oil paintings, and prints to digital collages, accordion books, ceramic sculptures, and monumental installations—mapping his evolution from early works in Baroda to large-scale reflections on identity, history, and contemporary realities.

Discover iconic pieces such as Speechless City (1975), City for Sale (1981-84), and Ahmedabad - The City Gandhi Left Behind (2015-16), which critically examine urban and political landscapes. Explore his engagement with storytelling through Kaavads, accordion books, and the Kahat Kabir series, where Sheikh reinterprets syncretic traditions using Kabir’s poetry to comment on themes of non-violence and communal harmony.

The retrospective also highlights his experiments with digital media, featuring works like Talisman: Taweez (2001) and the Mappamundi series (2001), which reimagine cartography as a site of historical dialogue. His latest works, Kaarawaan (2019-23) and Dus Darwaze (2019-24), delve into themes of journey, memory, and transcendence.
