Characterised by its signature blue, cyanotype is one of the oldest photographic printing processes. It is a camera-less technique that involves exposing a coated surface of iron salts to UV light, with various objects placed over.

During the workshop, participants will learn all the basics of working with cyanotype on paper, and eventually scan and transform their works into a moving image. By the end, each participant will have made a short clip that will be part of a larger film made collectively and screened at the festival. 

While this workshop requires no prior experience in working with cyanotypes or animation, an interest in both and a desire to create something as a collective would make an ideal participant.

Please note: cyanotype chemistry and paper will be provided by Harkat. Participants have the option of animating by digitally printing or drawing on ohp papers, or trying stop motion with objects and botanical subjects. Printing and/or additional material costs will be borne by the participant.

Now in it's 8th edition, the 16mm Film Festival was conceived by Harkat with a view of re-connecting with the cinematic medium through it’s celluloid history and present; and to foster a growing community. The festival screens photochemical based work of all formats.
