About the Event
The Potbelly is back again with another evening where you can be a part of a unique form of storytelling- Dastangoi and step into the world of Urdu stories.
Dastangoi, the extraordinary art of storytelling, found its origin a thousand years ago in Persia. The early dastangois told tales of magic, war and adventure, and borrowed freely from other stories such as the Arabian Nights, storytellers such as Rumi, and storytelling traditions such as the Panchatantra.
With the onset of new forms of fiction, its popularity slowly waned, with the last known practice of the art form tracing back to Mir Baqar Ali in 1928.
Until now, owing to the brilliance and artistry of the emerging Dastangos in India and beyond, Dastangoi has been revived again in India, Pakistan and the United States
