Dialogues with Art Meet-up: Exploring Charcoal

Expertise level: Beginner to intermediate

This month, the Dialogues with Art Meet-up is going to be all about exploring the rich medium of Charcoal. 

Charcoal is one of the most fascinating art mediums to work with as it allows you to add gradient, depth, and texture to your drawings like no other medium. Although charcoal art can be a challenging art form to master, it is also perfectly well-suited for beginners as it helps you learn about perspective and compositions. The tools and materials are inexpensive and easily available, making it fun to experiment with this medium.

This meet-up, hosted by our in-house artist Kirti, will help you get started with a new, exciting art form. And if you are already familiar with charcoals, this session will help you gain deeper insight into the medium and learn helpful tips and techniques to improve your skills. 

So come join our artist community and get ready to get your hands dirty! 

Please note that this is NOT a full-fledged art workshop. This meet-up gives artists an opportunity to learn the basics of a new art form and provides a creative platform for them to come together and create art.

What will you learn during the session?

• Introduction to the different types of charcoal
• Basics tips and techniques on drawing with charcoal
• Creating basic sketches
• Adding shading and depth
• Sketching an original charcoal artwork from scratch

 Materials required:

• Soft charcoal pencils 
• Papers (~140 gsm)
• Eraser
