About the Event

Learn about the origin and techniques of Block Printing. Revamp your apparel and furnishings.

In this session, you will:

  • Get an overview of Block Printing and its origin
  • Witness a live demonstration by the artist
  • Understand the techniques of the artform
  • Learn to print and fix the color permanently on the fabric
  • Learn to create 2 color prints using 2 wooden blocks
  • Get tips and tricks from the artist to master this artform
  • At the end of the workshop, you will have learnt to print with multiple color blocks, create border patterns and all round designs too.

About the artform

Block printing is the process of printing patterns with wooden blocks on fabric. These blocks are engraved and carved with intricate and elaborate patterns which enhance the beauty of the fabric. Block printing is an artform that has a rich history and is capable of producing highly artistic results. It is a highly popular method of revamping apparel, bedsheets and much more.


Flow of the workshop

Day 1:

  • Presentation on the history and geography of the artform
  • Demonstration by the artist
  • Hands on printing on paper
  • Presentation of printing on stoles
  • Hands on printing on a stole

Day 2:

  • Presentation and demonstration of techniques
  • Printing on a t-shirt and cushion/pillow covers
  • Review of your work by the artist

Who is this workshop for?

  • The workshop is for anyone who is interested in learning the techniques of this ancient artform.
  • It is a beginner friendly workshop. (Age 15+)
  • No prior knowledge of block printing is required. 

About the Artist

Pooja Gokul

Pooja Gokul, the founder of Amoha prints is an art educator and entrepreneur. She has conducted over 100 workshops in the past 5 years. She pursued her degree in Fine arts and specialized in block printing. She traveled around India to work with various artisans that further improved her knowledge and skill. Her passion to keep this art form alive has prompted her to found Amoha Prints.

  • Printing cloth

Other Materials required


  • 1 container
  • 1 wooden or plastic spoon
  • Water in a small bucket
  • Brush to watch blocks
  • Old bedsheet to spread on the table
  • A4 size sheets
  • Newspapers
  • Note book and pen to take down notes
  • Cutter
  • Permanent marker

Further prospects and application of what you will be learning

Learnings from this workshop can be used to revamp and upcycle other pieces of fabric and clothing. Use your creative skills to transform your wardrobe! You can further use the techniques to beautify other pieces of furnishing and smaller fabrics like handkerchiefs and napkins.
