About the Event

The establishment of the Mohammaden Anglo Oriental College at Aligarh by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan in 1875 started a new era in its history. In this virtual heritage walk we would look at the earliest structures of the Aligarh Muslim University Campus. These were the structures which were built in the late 19th century as a part of the original Mohammaden Anglo Oriental College Complex. They act as a repository of not only architectural and Islamic aesthetic expertise of colonial times but also as a metaphor for the larger cultural history of the time. With many qisse (anecdotes) associated with the structures, a look at them would be an important way of keeping alive the vibrant culture of the University Campus witnessed through ages. The areas that would be looked at will be the earliest known structure of the MAO College including The Victoria Gate, Strachey Hall, Jama Masjid etc.

This is an online-guided tour presented by India Heritage Walks.
