About the Event

Aguada Fort is a Portuguese military stronghold that still stands long after Portuguese rule ended in Goa. It is the best-preserved fort of its kind in India. The upper part of the fort houses a lighthouse, gun powder room, bastions, and a large underground moat for freshwater storage. The name Aguada comes from the Portuguese word for water agua. The fort was a place for ships to replenish their freshwater supplies.

Things to see
  • The lighthouse that was operational right up until 1976
  • The walls and stairways of the upper fort that have stood the test of time
  • The lovely St Lawrence Church which is close to the fort.
  • The stunning Sinquerim Beach on which the fort rests
How to get there?
  • Dabolim Airport is just over an hour’s drive from the fort via NH366 and NH 66. First, get to Candolim from where the fort is easily accessible.
  • While there are no direct trains to Candolim or Sinquerim, there are many buses that connect the major cities of Goa to the Sinquerim Bus Stop. You can also take a taxi from Thivim or Karmali railway stations.
