About the Event

Synopsis

Holi by Mahesh Elkunchwar, the psychological impact of fitting in and the rage that often accompanies it are central themes that unfold through the interactions of a group of college friends who lives in a Hostle. As they find out that holiday for The festival Holi has been cancelled they become agitated. the celebration of the festival of Holi becomes a symbolic backdrop for their deeper emotional struggles. Each character, while seemingly enjoying the festivities, is grappling with unresolved feelings of alienation, societal pressure, and the intense desire to conform to expectations.

The characters’ psychological battles are brought to the forefront as they confront the identities they’ve shaped over the years. The pressure to fit in—whether in terms of career, relationships, or societal roles—has led to personal disillusionment and a sense of internal rage. As their past choices and failures resurface, the characters express their frustrations through sharp exchanges, revealing how their struggles with identity and belonging have shaped their lives.

The play captures how the longing for acceptance, combined with the anger, results in a bittersweet exploration of the human condition—one that questions the very idea of fitting in and the cost it comes with.

Does this play, written in 1971 by Mahesh Elkunchwar, still stay relevant in today’s times? Only way to find out is to come and watch for yourself!
