About the Event

About the Workshop:

In this workshop, you will learn two ancient traditional artforms of Madhubani & Kalamkari. You will also learn to blend the two on a terracotta!

This is a 'beginner-friendly' workshop.


About the Artforms:

Kalamkari is a type of hand-printed or hand block printed cotton textile. Kalamkari refers to the ancient style of hand painting that is done with a tamarind pen, using natural dyes. Motifs drawn in this ancient art of Kalamkari, include flowers, peacock, paisleys, and also divine characters from Ramayana and Mahabharata

Madhubani painting is a famous art form practiced by people in the region of Mithila in Bihar and is also known as Mithila art. These paintings often have characteristics like complex geometric patterns along with drawings of the sun, fishes, peacock, etc using bright colors. This particular type of art was to decorate house walls and doors so as to seek God’s blessing for peace and prosperity.


Materials Required:

• Any terracotta item like plate, pot, cup, etc.

• Acrylic paints

• Posca marker black

• Paintbrushes size 00, 0 &1
