Science on Tap Vol 16 - Know Your Fish

People have relied on the oceans as a source of food and livelihood for thousands of years. With technology we have become capable of fishing more intensely resulting in overfishing which has caused the collapse of marine food webs and nearly 90% decline of many fish species. This has threatened not only the ecosystem but also food security and livelihoods of the people depending on it. To help people reduce their impact on marine life, Pooja Rathod, a marine biologist and wildlife filmmaker and her colleagues started ‘Know Your Fish’. Come and listen to Pooja talk about the first initiative in our country that can help seafood consumers make ocean friendly seafood choices for the health of our marine ecosystems. 

About the Speaker -

Pooja Rathode has worked in the Lakshadweep islands researching how ocean warming affects coral reef functioning. In the past three years, she has worked with International productions like National Geographic, Discovery, Off the Fence and several Indian NGOs documenting natural history and wildlife conservation stories across the country. Through this talk she will help you become a marine conservationist and better seafood consumer without major changes to you lifestyle.
