This September, as part of the Festive Textiles of Gujarat at ARTISANS’ Kala Ghoda, indulge yourself to the best of Gujarat with contemporary and vintage textiles, from wearables like bandhani, and embroidery, to decorative home accessories.

You can also participate in workshops by artisan-designer, Pabiben Lakhman Rabari who adapts current Dhebaria fashion for the contemporary market. Pabiben will offer two workshops that will introduce you to the joys of the Rabari embroidery and appliqué-work techniques from Gujarat.

1. Rabari Embroidery with Pabiben

Rabari embroidery is vigorous, with bold shapes. You will learn traditional techniques using glass mirrors. The stitches are square chain interlaced with buttonhole for mirror work, single chain, knot, Romanian blanket interlaced with herringbone, running, and double running.

2. Applique-work with Pabiben

The Rabaris applique their motifs and patterns to combine them with embroidery. You will learn the basic techniques of applique and reverse applique.
