About the Event

Live! at the Library is a new collaboration between Ministry of New and Helter Skelter Magazine to showcase the independent arts scene in India. Set in a beautiful library overlooking the heritage buildings of south Bombay, this will be a series of live and intimate events featuring music, dance, poetry, and literature, along with interviews, workshops, and discussions with creative people from across the country.

The first (very festive) edition of Live! at the Library will see performances by:

Gowri Jayakumar

Gowri Jayakumar is a singer-songwriter and producer based in Pune. She has three ongoing projects: Pulpy Shilpy (electro), Kozmi Cow (acoustic), and Run Pussy Run (freak funk band). In August 2016, she was invited to participate in the first South Asian Music Residency by the Goethe Institute in Chennai, amongst 14 other artists from Asia and Europe. She was a journalist for seven years (2006-2012) after which she studied music for ten months at the Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music.

SpokenThiiird

SpokenThiiird is a thinker, writer, spoken word artist and poet. He began writing in 2011 and has since become encapsulated by the intricacies of words. Since then he has written plays, books and individual pieces of writing and performed in front of tens of people to the thousands. With a unique spiritual based perception along with deep introspection and a love of philosophy SpokenThiiird coveys messages of love with social contexts.

Anu Elizabeth Roche

Anu Elizabeth Roche is a poet and mother to a very active one year old. She has been performing Spoken Word poetry for over three years now, with featured performances in several literary festivals, including Kavya Hotra, Times Celebrate Bandra and Poets Translating Poets. She has recorded a poetry podcast at Radio City Freedom’s Open Mic and has acted as a judge for performance poetry at Malhar 2016 and Mood Indigo IIT 2016. Born in Dubai to Malayali parents, she has moved between Chennai and Bangalore before settling down in Mumbai with her husband and daughter. It is no wonder, then, that she can't answer the question "Where are you from?" in a single sentence.

Mahithi Pillay

Mahithi is a journalist by profession and a writer by habit. Her work has been published in Mint’s The Small Picture section and the Helter Skelter Anthology of New Writing Vol. 4 and 5. She loves reading, writing, editing, and, above all, storytelling.

We’re also inviting poets from across the city to participate in an OPEN MIC session. Secret surprise gifts for the best open mic poets and secret surprises for the audience as well :) Santa hats encouraged.
