About the Event
As older adults reach the “Golden Years” unavoidable physical health problems are easily treated. However, mental health needs are often overlooked and considered as a part of aging. Moreover, physical health concerns like chronic pain have been seen to impact wellbeing. This session will address the gap by exploring the challenges in identifying the mental health needs in later life. Organic condition particularly dementia and its impact on wellbeing will be explored. Feelings of loneliness, isolation, boredom, reduced resilience, and its crossover with mental health challenges in the light of current pandemic will be discussed in detail. The session aims to explore evidence-based psychological interventions to enhance the overall wellbeing. It will also equip you with reflective listening, communication strategies, and warning signs to look for in supporting older adults.
