About the Event

‘Night, Mother’, by Marsha Norman is a Pulitzer prize-winning drama based on the mother-daughter relationship between Jessie and Thelma, set on the eve of the night when Jessie tells her mother that she is going to commit suicide. The action of the play takes place in Jessie’s and Thelma’s house, one that they have shared together for nearly two decades after Jessie’s divorce. The play’s strength lies in Norman’s writing that brings to the forefront this complicated yet beautiful relationship shared by the two through a conversation set in their living room. At the end of the day, ‘Night, mother’ isn't just a play about suicide, at its heart, it’s a story about the complexities of a relationship that we all know best - one between the parent and the child.

The plays simplicity is bound to shock the average person to their core as it attempts to make them question what lies at the foundation of every relationship – communication.
