About the Event

Safdarjung Tomb also referred to as 'Safdarjung Ka Maqbara', is a garden tomb in New Delhi. It is made entirely of marble and sandstone. Built in the late 18th century, it is a mausoleum of Safdarjung, a statesman who remained the Wazir ul-Hindustan (Prime Minister of India) during the reign of Ahmad Shah Bahadur. As you visit this mausoleum built by Safdarjung’s son Nawab Shujaud Daula, you can explore what remains the last monumental tomb depicting Mughal architectural style.

  • A ninefold floor plan 
  • A five-part facade
  • A large podium with a hidden stairway
  • A double-storied entry gate that carries an inscription in Arabic that says “When the hero of plain bravery departs from the transitory, may he become a resident of God’s paradise.”
  • The garden tomb is built in a fashion similar to that Humayun’s Tomb and also houses several pavilions, a madrasa and a library at the entrance.
