This play has been inspired by the real life story of Kabi, a Kutchchi sailor woman,

and by her struggle against the patriarchal mindset of the community that wouldnot

allow women to be sailors. The period is 1940s.

This storywas lost somewhere in the wooden decks of a ship.Our researchhelped us

dig out the story and inspired us to create afictional lovestory and power struggle,

which takes place on the ship which finally becomes a metaphor for the home,

human relationships and the overall context of the prevailing social values.The play

takes the audience on a journey through the sailor community’s world of culture,

beliefs, fears, humour, drama, love and hate, tricks and adventures – a churning of

the mindscape as well as oftheseascape.
