About the Event

Dir. Pier Paolo Pasolini (Italy)

Part of the series ‘Becoming Epic – Myth, Legend and Folk Tale through Colour and Sound’

TARQ will be hosting screenings of five films that are a part of the series ‘Becoming Epic – Myth, Legend and Folk Tale through Colour and Sound’. The series has been conceptualized by Mumbai based film scholar Elroy Pinto. The screenings are accompanied by a series of essays by Pinto under the same title.

This film by Italian film maker Pier Paolo Pasolini is based on the ancient Greek myth of Medea. A distinctive narrative of colour and sound provides a compelling backdrop to the mythical subject of the film. Pasolini also draws in the element of the ‘ritual’ that brings a distinct texture to the temporality of the film.

Medea was shot extensively in the Cappadocia region of Turkey, amidst the ruins of Early Christian temples. The film also sees the singer Maria Callas in her only acting role ever.

We are tremendously grateful to SND Films (France) for granting us the permission to screen this film.
