About the Event

Artist in Me series

KNMA Saket will transform into a vibrant space of creativity, exploration, and storytelling as we embark on a two-day workshop led by artist Gopa Trivedi.

Through the delicate strokes of Indian miniature painting and inspired by the layered storytelling of Gulammohammed Sheikh’s Kaavad art, participants will immerse themselves in the art of shaping and reshaping narratives. Each brushstroke and , each visual composition will echo personal memories, collective histories, and the ever-evolving dialogue between tradition and contemporary expression.

With the theme of being fluid visual storytelling, attendees will reflect on how stories shift through time, conversation, and reinterpretation. Personal experiences will take form on paper, merging into a shared tapestry of interconnected voices. As individual stories unfold and intertwine, the workshop will become a living testament to the power of art in shaping perspectives and fostering connection.

Workshop Overview

Day 1: Discovering Personal Narratives:

The first day will begin with introductions and an exploration of what storytelling means in the context of Indian miniature and Kawad Kaavad traditions. Participants will be guided through a curated walkthrough of the ongoing exhibition “Of Worlds Within Worlds Gulammohammed Sheikh, A Retrospective”Gulam Mohammad Sheikh’s exhibition, engaging with the dynamic ways in which unfolding narratives unfold in art. Following this, they will begin their own artistic journey—choosing a personal memory, experience, or event that has shaped them. Using watercolours and gouache, they will start transforming these stories into intricate visual compositions, experimenting with layering, texture, and symbolism. The day will conclude with reflections on how art serves as a medium of personal storytelling.

Day 2: Weaving a Collective Story:

The second day will shift the focus from individual narratives to shared storytelling. Participants will finalize their artworks before coming together in groups to create a collaborative visual piece. Through dialogue, response, and artistic intervention, individual stories will merge, creating a collective narrative that highlights the interplay of different perspectives. The workshop will culminate in a group display and discussion, where participants will reflect on how their work transformed through interaction, and how storytelling—like art—is never static but always evolving.
