Dario Fo and Franca Rame's novel, The Open Couple, tells the tale of a couple whose husband is involved in several extramarital affairs. Every time she learns of her husband's newest affair, the wife loses her mind and feels like killing herself. The husband persuades his wife to embrace the idea of an "open relationship" as the play goes on. The husband finds out later in the story that the wife has also fallen in love with another man. Now, he becomes enraged and jealous when he sees his wife looking so content and in control.
