The Hoshruba Repertory & Stagesmith present Poetrification.


Denzil Smith, Danish Husain, and Adil Manuel present a seamless, intoxicating evening of poetry, music, and banter. Danish will regale us with his favourite Urdu poets - Ghalib, Noon Meem Rashed, Faiz, Akhtarul Iman, Afzal Ahmed Syed, et al. And all through this Adil will help clothe these words by placing some musical notes under their feet.

Denzil Smith (born 6 November 1960) is an Indian film and stage actor and producer. Born to Anglo-Indian parents in Mumbai, he is known for his stage and screen roles as a character actor. Denzil has acted in over 40 plays and 29 films.[1] He has a long-standing association with both Motley Productions for Waiting for Godot and The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial, and PrimeTime Theatre for August: Osage County and Sammy among other works. Notable international productions include Merchants of Bollywood (2007-2010) and Life of Buddha (2014). Film credits include Brahman Naman (2016), Bombay Velvet (2015), The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2015), The Lunchbox (2013), The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011), Frozen (2007), Ek Ajnabee (2005), and Paap (2003).


Adil Manuel is an award winning Guitarist, arranger, composer. Adil has been playing for over a decade now. He has a unique style blending various influences and genres. He started out with bands like MRP, Asphyxia, Olio and the Rock Opera, Bandish and various other. He later branched into sessions and studio work playing with eminent artists such as Mohit Chauhan, Shubha Mudgal, Indian Ocean, Silk Route amongst others. Newer collaborations have been with Vishal Dadlani, Clinton Cerejo, Uday Benegal, Kailash Kher and Siddharth Basrur. His unique approach and signature style have won him significant acclaim amongst musicians both here and abroad. Adil formed the ground breaking, critically acclaimed collaborative outfit “Adil & Vasundhara" and staged numerous concerts across in India and abroad. They were featured on the award winning documentary series ‘Dewarists’ and on Fox Life India ‘Sound Trek’ series collaborating with various bands as diverse as progressive rock band ‘Thermal & a Quarter’ from Bangalore to iconic Pakistani pop-rock band "Noori" to virtuoso flautist "Ashwin Srinivasan". Danish Husain is a poet, actor (Losing Gemma, Peepli Live, Dhobi Ghat, Ankhon Dekhi, Welcome To Karachi), filmmaker (Live from Peepli documentary), theatre director (Krapp's Last Tape, Chinese Coffee, Ek Punjab Ye Bhi), one of the people who helped revive the lost art form of Urdu storytelling, Dastangoi, a columnist with India Today opinion site Daily O. He runs his own theatre company called The Hoshruba Repertory which premiered its new play Ek Punjab Ye Bhi at the prestigious Prithvi Theatre Festival 2015. His upcoming projects include four indie movies Mantra, City of Dark, Alif, and Newton; a multi-lingual theatrical storytelling project Qissebaazi at NCPA, Mumbai's Centrestage Festival 2016; and a sitcom with Zee TV called Bin Kuchh Kahe. He won the META for Best Supporting Actor in 2008, and Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puruskar from Sangeet Natak Akademi in 2010
