As children, we were given this futile task to copy the geographical map hanging on the classroom wall, but the only borders known to our innocent minds were the - grand mountains, deep valleys, and the impassable rivers.

As adults we are now witnessing the forced migration of people far beyond these borders. An entire generation of people forced escape their homeland, stricken by daily struggles against cultural violence, climate changes, poverty, dictatorship and war - set on a journey in hopes of building a safer future.

Let us travel back in time to ancient Babylon, where the god create humans, gave them diversity of languages and scattered them across the globe as punishment. Today, we symbolically move these geographical boundaries by collecting a handful of soil from different regions of the world to reverse this historical story. This liberation stands in complete contrast to our lived experience of the political borders dividing the countries that form the "red zone".

Believe me, these are not guide lines but a rope for 'Alan Kurdi'.

*Alan Kurdi was a two-year-old Syrian boy of Kurdish ethnic background whose image made global headlines after he drowned on 2 September 2015 in the Mediterranean Sea along with his mother and brother.
