About the Event
What the Fish is All the Fuss About? invites us to see Shakespeare not as a distant literary icon frozen in textbooks, but as a working playwright in late 16th and early 17th century London - writing for actors, tight deadlines, and unpredictable live audiences, not academic analysis centuries later.
From how actors prepared, to how the architecture shaped the action, to why the language moves the way it does - this show & tell session lifts Shakespeare off the page and puts him back where he belongs: on his feet, in the moment, alive. Whether you're a longtime fan or someone who's only met Shakespeare in a classroom, this session invites you to meet the man behind the myth - and rediscover the joy, wit, and urgency of his plays the way they were meant to be experienced.
Blending performance, historical insight, and behind-the-scenes anecdotes, theatre-maker Anirudh 'Rudy' Nair brings Elizabethan London to life and reminds us that Shakespeare’s world was anything but dry. These were plays written to be played in bustling theatres filled with rowdy audiences, performed under daylight, with all-male casts, doubled roles, and minimal rehearsal time. Shakespeare was not just a genius - he was a nimble, pragmatic artist responding to the thrills and constraints of live performance.
