About the Event

With almost 45 years of success, they continue to evolve and reinvent themselves, creating a magical and ever-changing experience. It's amazing how they incorporate the diverse sounds of Africa, Asia, and Europe into their music, creating a unique fusion. Through their singing and poetry, Ziskakan carries a whole set of Reunion Island values and brings the beauty of Creole poetry to life. I can imagine that their performances must be a truly unforgettable experience !

It's amazing to see how Ziskakan continues to stay modern and avoid the pitfalls of ethnic curiosity. Gilbert Pounia's band successfully exports their music to spread their message of engagement. Even after four decades, this myth of creoleness still manages to surprise with its vitality. It makes us wonder, dreamy and eagerly awaiting an answer to the question posed from the beginning : Ziskakan ? But forever !

It's definitely not a coincidence that Ziskakan's new lineup includes young musicians, as if to symbolize the outstretched hand towards the generation that Gilbert Pounia has long accompanied as an educator and with whom he continues to maintain strong ties. Around him, it's the musical "family" that expresses itself: his son Wazis (bass, percussion, flute, and vocals), Clency Sumac (guitar), Frédéric Riesser (drums, percussion, and melodica). And also Damien Hervio (piano, vocals). It's wonderful to see this intergenerational collaboration within the band!

As always with Gilbert Pounia, this collaboration is primarily the result of human encounters and a history of friendship. Songs written by Axel Gauvin, Gillette Staudasher-Valliamé, Patrice Treuthardt, Daniel Honoré, Dev Virahsawmy are intertwined with his own. And once again, it's about family : the family of lovers of the Creole language and its poetry. It's truly 45 years of Creole soul, rhythm, battles, emotion, and vivid and colorful words. It's truly beautiful !
